How it works

Step 1

Run the host

Install Hallway Photos on a home PC. It stores the family library as ordinary folders and files — no command line, no cloud account required.

Step 2

Add your phones

Everyone installs the app and signs in. The first person is the owner; others join with an account or a six-digit invite code.

Step 3

Pick a rule per album

Keep, offload, one-time, or ignore — per album. New photos land on the PC, organized and checksum-verified, on your home Wi-Fi.

Why families use it

No subscription. LAN sync is free forever. You already pay for the PC — use its space instead of a monthly cloud bill.

Originals preserved. Full-resolution files, RAW, Live Photos, and edits. Your library is plain folders you can open in anything.

Verified backups. Every transfer is hashed and checked on the PC before it counts. The app never claims “synced” without a receipt.

Free up phone space. Offload albums after they're verified at home — the app uses iOS's own delete confirmation, never silently.

Per-person folders. Each family member gets their own account and space under one household library.

Your data stays yours. The developer runs no server that receives your photos, videos, or account data. It lives on your host.

Not a cloud service — no company servers hold your photos.

Questions

Do I need a cloud account?

You make a free hallwayphotos.com account to download the host and link it to your license — that is what keeps license keys from being shared. After that, day-to-day sync happens entirely on your home network between your phones and your PC; the account is not in the loop.

What does it cost?

Nothing during beta. Local sync stays free. If paid tiers arrive later (for remote sync features), local sync is unaffected.

Which platforms?

The iOS app plus a Windows host today. A Mac host is planned.

Where are my photos stored?

In a normal folder on the computer you run the host on. You can browse, back up, or move that folder like any other.

Can family members outside my house sync?

Not yet — sync is on your home Wi-Fi. Relay sync (from anywhere, with your photos still never readable by us) is in development; your license key is already reserved for it.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. Photos already saved on your host are kept.
